The Char Dham Yatra 2027 is expected to begin in late April 2027, when the four Himalayan shrines — Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath — reopen for the season. The exact kapat (door) opening dates are announced a few weeks earlier on auspicious festivals. For reference, in 2026 Yamunotri and Gangotri opened on 19 April, Kedarnath on 22 April and Badrinath on 23 April. Below are the expected 2027 dates, how they are decided, mandatory registration and how to plan.
| Dham | 2027 opening (expected) | Date announced on |
|---|---|---|
| Yamunotri | Late April 2027 | Akshaya Tritiya |
| Gangotri | Late April 2027 | Akshaya Tritiya |
| Kedarnath | Late April 2027 | Maha Shivratri |
| Badrinath | Late April / early May 2027 | Basant Panchami |
The official 2027 opening dates have not yet been declared. Each temple's kapat date is fixed by priests using the Hindu panchang and announced on a specific festival: Kedarnath on Maha Shivratri, Badrinath on Basant Panchami, and Yamunotri & Gangotri on Akshaya Tritiya (the day they open). Based on recent years, all four are expected to open in the last week of April or the first week of May 2027. We will update this page as each 2027 date is confirmed.
Kedarnath's 2027 kapat date will be announced on Maha Shivratri 2027 and is expected around late April 2027 (it opened on 22 April in 2026). For the full details, see our dedicated Kedarnath opening & closing dates 2027 guide.
Badrinath's opening date is declared on Basant Panchami (around late January / February 2027) and the temple is expected to open in late April or early May 2027. Badrinath usually opens a day or two after Kedarnath.
Yamunotri and Gangotri both open on Akshaya Tritiya, which falls in late April 2027. These two dhams traditionally mark the start of the Char Dham season, opening a few days before Kedarnath and Badrinath.
The Char Dham temples close for winter around Diwali. The 2027 closing is expected between late October and mid-November 2027 — Kedarnath on Bhai Dooj, Badrinath a few days later, and Gangotri & Yamunotri around Bhai Dooj / Annakut. Exact closing dates are announced during the season.
Registration is mandatory for every pilgrim on the Char Dham Yatra. It is done online on the Uttarakhand tourism portal (or app/WhatsApp) and at offline counters in Haridwar and Rishikesh, using a photo ID and mobile number. As soon as the 2027 dates are announced, registration slots and hotels near the trailheads fill fast. See our step-by-step Char Dham registration guide to be ready.
The classic circuit runs Haridwar → Barkot (Yamunotri) → Uttarkashi (Gangotri) → Guptkashi/Sonprayag (Kedarnath) → Badrinath → Haridwar, taking roughly 10–12 days by road. Pilgrims short on time often do Do Dham (Kedarnath + Badrinath) in 5–6 days or choose a helicopter yatra that covers all four in 5–6 days. See our full Char Dham itinerary & route map.
Costs depend on the route (road vs helicopter), hotel category and group size. For a transparent breakdown by road and by helicopter, read our Char Dham Yatra cost per person guide.
