When will Amarnath Yatra 2027 start?

The Amarnath Yatra 2027 is expected to begin in the first week of July 2027, aligned with the holy month of Shravan. It usually concludes on Shravan Purnima / Raksha Bandhan. For reference, the 2026 yatra ran 3 July to 28 August (57 days), and the first puja (Pratham Puja) was held on Jyeshta Purnima. The duration changes slightly each year depending on the Hindu calendar and security arrangements.

Amarnath Yatra 2027 registration

Registration is mandatory for every pilgrim and is expected to open around April 2027 (it opened on 15 April in 2026). The process:

  • Online: advance registration on the official SASB portal (jksasb.nic.in) with Aadhaar-based biometric eKYC.
  • Bank branches: designated branches of SBI, PNB, YES Bank, Axis Bank and others issue permits.
  • Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC): a health certificate from an authorised doctor is required — the yatra is at high altitude (~3,888 m / 12,756 ft at the cave).
  • A nominal registration fee (around ₹150 per pilgrim in 2026) and the standard age limits (typically 13–70 years) apply; confirm on the SASB site for 2027.

Amarnath Yatra routes

  • Pahalgam route (~48 km, 3–5 days): the traditional, gradual path via Chandanwari, Sheshnag and Panchtarni — longer but scenic and easier on the body.
  • Baltal route (~14 km, 1–2 days): the short, steep path for fit pilgrims who want to complete darshan quickly.
  • Helicopter: services operate on both routes (to Panchtarni), cutting the trek dramatically — book early as slots fill fast.

Best time & tips for 2027

Early July and late August tend to be less crowded than the mid-season peak. Carry warm woollens, a raincoat, trekking shoes and your CHC + photo ID. Acclimatise, stay hydrated, and follow SASB and security advisories. Weather can change fast, so keep buffer days.
